FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH / NEXT STEPS

How to Be Saved

Eternal life is a gift from God.

Do you know for sure that you have eternal life? If God asked you, "Why should I let you into Heaven?" what would you say?

The good news is that you don't have to guess. The Bible explains how you can receive forgiveness, begin a relationship with God, and know that you have eternal life.

Heaven Is a Free Gift

Eternal life cannot be earned through good deeds, church attendance, baptism, or trying to be a better person. God gives it by grace.

"The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."Romans 6:23
"For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast."Ephesians 2:8-9

If eternal life is a gift, why do we need it?

We Are Sinners

Every one of us has sinned. We have thought, said, and done things that fall short of God's perfect standard. Our sin separates us from God, and we cannot save ourselves.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."Romans 3:23

Being better than someone else does not remove our sin. We need forgiveness.

God Is Loving and Just

God loves you. He made you and wants you to know Him. But God is also holy and just. He cannot ignore sin or pretend it does not matter.

"God is love."1 John 4:8
"For the wages of sin is death."Romans 6:23

How can a loving God forgive us while still dealing justly with our sin? The answer is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Died and Rose Again

Jesus is God the Son. He became a man, lived a sinless life, and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Then He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death.

"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and… he was buried, and… he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Jesus did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He alone can save us.

Receive His Gift by Faith

Saving faith means trusting Jesus Christ alone for salvation. It is more than knowing facts about Jesus or believing that God exists. It means relying on what Jesus has done rather than your own goodness.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."Acts 16:31

You receive God's gift by turning from sin and placing your trust in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

How Can I Respond?

A - Admit Your Need

Be honest with God. Admit that you are a sinner, need His forgiveness, and cannot save yourself.

B - Believe in Jesus

Believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again. Trust Him alone to save you.

C - Commit Your Life to Christ

Turn from your sin and entrust your life to Jesus as your Savior and Lord. You do not have to make yourself perfect first. Come to Him as you are, willing to let Him lead and change you.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."Romans 10:13

You Can Express Your Faith in Prayer

Prayer is a way to tell God that you are trusting Him. You might pray:

"Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust You alone to save me. Please lead my life as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. Amen."

Jesus saves through faith in Him-not merely by saying a prayer. What matters is sincerely trusting Christ, not repeating certain words.

How Can I Know I Have Eternal Life?

Your assurance rests on Jesus and His promise, rather than on how you feel.

"He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."John 6:47

If you have trusted Christ, begin growing in your relationship with Him. Read the Bible, talk with God in prayer, and connect with a church family. We would love to walk alongside you.
